Advancing out of a stacked Sectional of large schools including Valpo, Chesterton, LaPorte, Portage, Hobart, MI City, KV, and others, Wheeler’s Tommy Emery was State bound ranked 15th in Indiana in the 50-yard Freestyle with his time of 21.48. There he swam a 21.69 and came just short of making the finals, but he did qualify for both the Senior State Championship held at Pike High School and the Speedo Central Region Sectional Championships back at the IU Natatorium the following weeks. At these he competed in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and 100 and 200 Butterfly events, all in both short course yards and long course meters, as well as several Medley and Freestyle relays where he finished 5th in both the 200 and 400 Free Relays.
