Wheeler Varsity Bearcats Rally Defeats Hammond Bishop Noll

Wheeler Varsity Bearcats trailed by as many as four, but came back to defeat Hammond Bishop Noll on Tuesday, 6-5. Hammond Bishop Noll were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run. Hammond Bishop Noll added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Gavin Knight grounded out, and Rey Servin singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run. Hammond Bishop Noll added one run in the third. Joel Gomez hit a sacrifice fly, making the score 4-0. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Nick Micciche that drove in two. Caleb McLaughlin stepped on the hill first for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. The starter gave up four hits and five runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking six. Servin opened the game for Hammond Bishop Noll. The starter allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking six. Micciche went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. David Lindlow and McLaughlin each collected two hits for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Chase Yanek and Nick Bravo led the team with two bases on balls each. Bravo stole two bases. Knight led the team with two runs batted in. Xari Peterson, Hammond Bishop Noll's number nine hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Aaron Orosro paced Hammond Bishop Noll with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Peterson stole two bases. Hammond Bishop Noll turned two double plays in the game. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats will travel to Merrillville for their next game on Thursday.
