Wheeler Varsity Bearcats Stymied By River Forest

Wheeler Varsity Bearcats couldn't keep up with River Forest and fell 8-2 on Monday. River Forest jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Levi Harper doubled, scoring two runs, and Johnny Brock singled, scoring one run. River Forest added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Sebastian Collazo IV doubled to center field, and Wheeler Varsity Bearcats committed an error, each scoring one run. River Forest extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Walter Jaime and Collazo IV. Brandon Fergerson earned the win for River Forest. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Caleb McLaughlin took the loss for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. The hurler went three innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking one. Blake Laba went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Noah Udzielak, Nick Micciche, Laba, McLaughlin, and Jack Gaetz each collected one hit for Wheeler Varsity Bearcats. River Forest tallied 10 hits in the game. Fergerson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead River Forest in hits. Collazo IV and Harper each drove in two runs for River Forest. Jaime collected two hits for River Forest in three at bats. Jaime and Josiah Artest each stole multiple bases for River Forest. River Forest ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game. River Forest turned one double play in the game. Wheeler Varsity Bearcats play at home on Tuesday against River Forest in their next game.
